Introducing Braai Republic

Braai Republic is Seoul and Pyeongtaek’s home for authentic South African cuisine.

Since 2011, we’ve become a favourite stomping ground for both South Africans and other meat-loving expats. Braai is the South African word for barbecue and the social event that brings together people from all backgrounds back home.

Meet the Owners

Braai Republic was founded by two friends from South Africa, united by their love of rugby, barbecue, and community.

Their journey from the rugby field to the kitchen is a story of passion, friendship, and a commitment to sharing the unexpected joys of South African cuisine in Korea.

Braai Republic Pyeongtaek

The lamb chops, hand-made sausages and meat pies proved very popular with ex-pats and Koreans alike, and in 2015, Braai Republic opened a branch in Pyeongtaek with an expanded menu. Enter peri-peri chicken and Gatsby sandwiches!

Braai Brasse Journey

In between there was of course some time left for fun: Braai Republic sponsored a cricket team for a season, the Braai Brasse! We didn’t win many games, but we did meet an all-rounder called Cuyler Meyer who seemed pretty handy with a pair of tongs at the post-game braais. After spending his mandatory 6 months in the kitchens of Itaewon and Pyeongtaek, he became our CFO and resident-millennial.
